Thermal Imaging Camera Thermal Imaging Cameras (TICs) are used by firefighters in many situations. The cameras detect energy (infrared radiation) levels that represent the different temperatures of an object and its surroundings. The camera uses this information to display a grayscale image on its screen with white representing warmer objects and black representing cooler ones. This allows firefighters to "see through smoke" to spot victims in a fire or to do such things as look for hot spots in a wall or to look for overheated electrical equipment. The Bridgeton Fire Department has three Bullard TICs: two T1 and one T3 camera. See Bullard's web site for more information.
